Motorola zukünftig mit 2 Preisvarianten des Lapdocks

Mit dem Motorola Atrix hat Motorola das Lapdock eingeführt. Hier steckt man das Smartphone hinten in ein Dock und kann dann seine Power als Laptop nutzen. Ein großer Kritikpunkt am Lapdock war allerdings der Preis. Das Lapdock kostet aktuell etwa 300 Euro. Zukünftig möchte Motorola das Lapdock zusätzlich in einer günstigeren Variante anbieten. Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha dazu:

I could start by saying we continued to do a lot of consumer testing of our webtop capability and we do the testing in enterprise. In both places, we see a lot of interest but believe it or not, the traction is actually greater for the webtop capabilities with the enterprise than it is with consumers. And what you will see us do is actually recognize that the pricing of our initial devices were little higher and you will see us introduce two tiers of laptops, lap docks rather. One in the lower tier to address the consumer needs and another higher tier to address the enterprise needs which the customers there are little less sensitive to pricing and much more careful about the capabilities that they receive.

Die Idee für das Lapdock ist im Grunde genommen ganz “cool”. Allerdings ist es in der Praxis aus unserer Sicht dann doch nicht ganz so nützlich. Wir würden unsere Hoffnung eher darauf setzen, dass das Lapdock mit Android Ice Cream Sandwich spannender wird. Dann könnte Motorola vielleicht seine Eigenentwicklung einstampfen. Aber einen ähnlichen Erfolg wie bei Produkten wie zum Beispiel dem Asus Eee Pad Transformer sehen wir auch dann für das Lapdock nicht.
